MONROVIA-President George M. Weah will today, January 30, 2023, deliver his sixth State of the Nation address. Today’s address is in fulfillment of Article 58 of the Constitution of Liberia. Article 58 states, “The President shall, on the fourth working Monday in January of each year, present the administration’s legislative program for the ensuing session, and shall once a year report to the Legislature on the state of the Republic. In presenting the economic condition of the Republic the report shall cover expenditure as well as income.” Because New Year felt on Sunday, the government proclaimed Monday, January 2 as the official day for the celebration of the New Year thus pushing the President’s Message to the 30th of January, 2023. In most of his addresses, the Liberian leader has always preached the message of peace and coexistence. “Without peace, our world will be a difficult place to live,” this is one of his famous quotations when he talks about keeping Liberia peaceful. It can be recalled that in his last year’s SONA, the Liberian leader urged Liberians to make peace, unity, and reconciliation a national priority at the same time reassured citizens of his unwavering determination to keep the nation stable and peaceful. The Liberian leader has lived up to his promises about keeping Liberia peaceful. Aside from keeping his promises about maintaining the peace of the country, President Weah also kept his promise made about tuition-free public universities, and long-standing problems students faced in registering for the national examination-West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), and he laid it to rest. In the area of health, the Weah-led government renovated the John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital, built the 14th Military Hospital, and constructed a state-of-the-Art modern referral hospital in Gbediah Town, River Cess County, Construction of Emirates Hospital in Bopolu, while his administration strived in the fight against in containing COVID-19. The administration made efforts and passed landmark bills with the Land Rights Act being one of the outstanding ones. Additionally, talking about roads, the government paved Doe Community Road to Clara Town, Johnsonville, Pipeline, and other feeder roads in Monrovia and Paynesville and just broke grounds for the pavement of the Cestos City in Rivercess County. The Liberian leader kept his promise also in the area of the market. He kept market women in his thoughts, thus making him to construct modern state-of-the-art markets in Omega, Duala, Bo-Waterside Township, Salala, and Bong County among others. As he addresses the Liberian legislature today, much is expected of the Liberian leader in continuation of his promises to the people of Liberia. In related governmental news the President of the Republic, H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah has made additional appointments in the government, affecting the judiciary and the Governance Commission. Those nominated in government are Cllr. Golda Bonah Elliott, Relieving Judge, and Cllr. Mameita Jabateh-Sirleaf, Resident Judge Criminal Court D. Also appointed by the President January 28, 2023, was Atty. Garrison Doldeh Yealue, Jr., Chairman of the Governance Commission.
