MONROVIA-The management of Spoon Communication Network and its owner, Stanton Witherspoon, has been summoned by the Civil Law Court relative to a US$2.5 million United States dollars lawsuit.

The court’s January 6, 2023 writ was triggered by the Former Deputy Director General for Information Coordination at the Liberia Institute of Statistic and Geo-Information Services, Wilmot Smith for slander and libel against the media institution and its owner.

Smith’s lawyer Cllr. Arthur Johnson’s complaints alleged that the first and second defendants willfully engaged in a slanderous campaign on spoon TV social media platforms (radio), for more than three months where they branded him as a criminal who reportedly stole the census funds intended to pay enumerators.

Cllr. Johnson said between June 2022 and November 30, 2022, Witherspoon on the spoon talk show, engaged in a systematic campaign alleging that his client Smith personally converted the Liberian National Population and Housing Census money thereby inciting the public and enumerators against his client.

Johnson maintained that the objective of Witherspoon was to defame and injure the integrity of his client, something he said the defendants succeeded in.
