MONROVIA-The Environmental Protection Agency of Liberia (EPA) in collaboration with Conversation International with support from Global Environmental Facilities on Thursday, February 25,2021 concluded a-two-day communication strategy meeting on Capacity Building Initiative for Transparency with Media Practitioner and Governmental entities.
The training seeks to increase or improve the skills and knowledge of communication Officers to communicate the work of the CBIT and Nationally Determine Contributions Hub (NDC). The two days workshop which runs from February 25- 26, 2021, took place at the Corina Hotel, 26th Street Sinkor thus bring together over 50 participants from the media and different line ministries and agencies of Government.
Making remarks on behalf of EPA Boss, the Multilateral Environment Agreement Coodinator at EPA, Jefferson Nyan said the communication strategy meeting is one of the important activities under the CBIT because information dissemination is key in convying information about climate change.
He urged participants to pay key attention to presentation from facilitators in order to work together as team for benefits of the CBIT project.
Providing the overview of the training, Mr. Nelson S. Jallah, CI Senior Project Manager, disclosed that transparency is the hallmark of the CBIT project as it focuses on implementing the project in a transparent way to the finalization stage in compliance to Article 13 of the Paris Agreement ( enhance, transparency and framework).
Mr. Jallah said the objective of the CBIT is to provide direct technical support to harmoize land use, agriculture, energy, transport and reporting through training and assistance.
He further stated that the CBIT was created at the request of parties to help strengthen the institution and technical capacities of non- Annex I countries to meet the enchanced transparency requirement define in Article 13 of the Paris Agreement.
For her part, Atty. Patmilla Doe Paivey, who served as one of the Facilitators said the strategy use is to educate Citizens about substantial land management through increased awareness on policies that support substantial land management practice such as protectio, conservation substantial use of resources.
She added that CBIT aims to strengthen national institutions for transparency-related activities in line with national priorities to provide relevant tools, training and assistance for meeting the provisions stipulated in Article 13 of the Agreement and to assist in the improvement of transparency over time.
Paivey added that it will promote the use of alternative energy sources highlighting models of eco-friendly and best practices.
