“Enough Is Enough” -Anti Rape Campaigners Raise Alarm

Dressed in dominant black as a sign of solidarity to the victims of rape, hundreds of cross session of Liberians paraded the Main Street of Tubman Boulevard up to Capitol Hill well energized and marched up to the Foreign Ministry at the office of the President just to send a clear message to the globe saying ‘no to rape in the Country.’

“Enough is enough, we need an end to such ugly practice,” one of the campaigners noted.

According to them, it is time that the government takes such issue as national emergency because it is gradually eating up the society.

The campaigners many of whom were young people who are in most cases falling prey to such issue called for concrete action to end such menace from the Society.

“We want everyone to get involved into this campaign because it is everyone business; the issue of rape is troubling and rampant in the society. Let’s fight against it now,” they pointed out. 

Among other things, they want stronger laws and tangible implementation mainly from the end of the justice system to end such ugly practice.

Knowingly in violation of the COVID-19 health protocol, many of the campaigners were seen without masks and in large number chanting anti rape slogans and holding placards with several inscriptions just with the aimed of sending one message of putting an end to rape across the Country.

Politicians, men, women and children, civil society and pressure groups were all seen in the campaign as they demanded presenting the petition statement to President George Manneh Weah as feminist in chief of the Country though Gender, Children and Social Protection Minister Willimetta Piso Saydee Tarr was present as the Minister responsible for such issue.

According to latest statistics as of June, July to August over 600 people many of whom were young kids under the ages of five have been raped  though some action legally have been taken, but the protesters claimed that more still needs to be done completely to put  an end to such practice.
