MONROVIA-Since the Liberian Leader, President George M. Weah took the center and announced that he will be contesting the Presidency for the second time, there has been a plethora of endorsements from several political parties, including some influential Liberians.
Of recent, about six opposition Political Parties signed a joint resolution to fully support the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) on October 10, 2023’s Presidential and Legislative Elections.
The six Opposition Political Parties, include the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), the Union of Liberian Democrats (ULD), the United People’s Party (UPP), Redemption Democratic Congress (RDC), and Change Democratic Action (CDA).
In a bid to actualize their resolutions and to amalgamate forces with the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), the Spokesperson of the six Opposition Political Parties and MOVEE’s National Chairman, Robert Sammie, mentioned that the six Parties have submitted a document of intention to the Leadership of the CDC following the signing of a joint resolution.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, in Monrovia, Mr. Sammie indicated that the Leadership of the 6 opposition Political Parties has fully concluded the procedure to join the CDC.
“It requires some procedures; internally, each political party has to go through internal processes and talk to its executive committee and go to a convention, where one hundred percent (100%) of those who attended the convention will have to consent and sign unto said resolution, and then from that resolution, you will have to apply to the CDC expressing the will of your people to join the coalition and of course, that resolution needed to be probated with a letter of application, we have done all of that and so we are set “ he noted.
He told the public that the six Political Parties are now readied to formalize such a decision to officially join the CDC as a grand coalition in the October 10 Elections.
Speaking about the Official Ceremony, the Program Chairman and National Chairman of the People’s Liberation Party (PLP), Bernard Benson noted that, the event is slated for April 8, 2023, at the Movement for Economic Empowerment’s (MOVEE) Headquarters in Paynesville.
According to the two Officials, Robert Sammie and Bernard Benson, on April 8, 2023, the six Political parties will be officially signing the CDC Framework Document.
According to Sammie, the six Parties will make the CDC nine political parties in total with the objective to support President George Weah’s re-election.
