MONROVIA-Following the most political crushing blow in recent time that dealt with the Unity Party (UP) in the just-ended senatorial by-election in Lofa; a once considered turf for Dr. Joseph N. Boakai, a no-go-zone for opposition parties let alone political intruders, President George M. Weah, having successfully broken the camel’s back, has dispatched an emissary to the people of Lofa to remind them of their 2023 promise to him to vote for him massively.

During the recent County tour by President Weah to Lofa alongside Vice President Jewel Howard Taylor,  chiefs and traditional leaders with some citizens of the county promised him (President Weah) to deliver Lofa to him  in the upcoming  2023 presidential elections as evidence of Congress for Democratic Change(CDC) heavily supported Candidate, Cllr. Joseph Jallah who won the Lofa’s senatorial seat.

In a drive to keep the promise alive, an envoy, the Montserrado County District #5 Representative Thomas Fallah spoke in Lofa during an appreciation program for the people of Lofa County, who for the first time in the political history of the Coalition for Democratic Change to back a candidate in that county’s election and won, said the event of his presence in the county was intended to thank the citizens for Jallah’s victory and to also reiterate as a reminder, a message to keep their promise for their support to his reelection.

Recently, Cllr. Joseph Jallah was inducted at the Liberian Senate as Senator of Lofa County following his certification by the National Elections Commission (NEC) as the winner of the just-ended by-election.

Rep. Fallah also indicated that President Weah is now focusing on the developmental programs for the people of Lofa through Senator Joseph Jallah.

According to him, President Weah appreciated the people of Lofa for supporting the CDC in the just-ended by-election; a clear manifestation of their promise.

President Weah reminding the people of Lofa of their promise has proven that the Struggle for supremacy of  the vote-rich Lofa County is now intensifying between  President Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC)  and that of the former vice president and Standard Bearer of the Unity Party (UP) Dr. Joseph Boakai..

In 2017 presidential elections, President Weah of the CDC won 14 out of the 15 counties with Joseph Boakai of UP winning only Lofa County.

Unity Party was established on July 27, 1985, in Buchanan Bassa County by Dr. Edward B. Kesselly a son of Lofa who was the party’s first standard Bearer.

According to political commentators, the citizens of Lofa County in 2017 fully supported UP and their son Joseph Boakai based on their traditional and historic believe that the UP belongs to the people of Lofa and it was their time to have the presidency.

Lofa County has been three times successful with the vice president position of the country, beginning with the late Harry Moniba who was vice president to the late Samuel K. Doe President of the country.  Amb. Joseph N. Boakai of Lofa was the vice president to former president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of the Unity Party   and now, Jewel Howard Taylor present Vice President to President George Weah of the Coalition for Democratic Change
