Monrovia-December 5, 2025: Bong County Electoral District #6 Representative, Moima Briggs-Mensah, has called on the Legislature to take concrete action in enforcing its previously agreed-upon policy restricting the cost of public officialsโ vehicles to no more than US $45,000.
Speaking during Thursdayโs session, Rep. Briggs-Mensah expressed concern that several officials within the Executive Branchโincluding Ministers and Director-Generalsโare reportedly using vehicles valued above US $60,000, in clear violation of the policy. She emphasized that such actions undermine the Legislatureโs efforts to promote fiscal discipline and responsible public spending.
The Bong County lawmaker urged Plenary to ensure that the policy is uniformly applied across all branches of government and that corrective measures are taken where violations have occurred.
Rep. Briggs-Mensah further called on the Liberia Telecommunications Authority (LTA) to provide clarity on how the Government intends to raise revenue or make contributions to the national budget following the suspension of the Telecommunications International Gateway (TIA) agreement. She noted that the TIA has historically served as a significant revenue stream, and the lack of an alternative framework poses a challenge to the FY2025 budget.
The lawmaker lamented that โnot a single centโ from what previously accrued under the TIA has been placed in the current draft budget, raising concerns about potential revenue gaps and the overall financial sustainability of the national spending plan.
Rep. Briggs-Mensah called for swift action, transparency, and accountability to ensure the national budget reflects realistic revenue sources and adheres to agreed fiscal policies.
